Christina Aguilera Is 'Really Talented' In 'Burlesque,' Robin Antin Says

Christina Aguilera Is 'Really Talented' In 'Burlesque,' Robin Antin Says
Pussycat Dolls creator says the singer is 'doing really well' in big-screen debut.

Onetime Pussycat Dolls guest performer Christina Aguilera is filming her big-screen debut in the movie musical "Burlesque," which is being helmed by Steve Antin, brother of PCD creator Robin Antin. Robin said it's great to see her brother and Aguilera working together on the flick because they bring something special out in each another.

"It's going very well, and Christina's great," Robin told MTV News of the singer, who performed with the Pussycat Dolls revue in Las Vegas back in 2003. "It's a great opportunity for her, and she's really talented, obviously. She came and was a guest in the Pussycat Dolls, and that's how that really happened; that's how my brother met Christina. ... I think the movie's going to be very cool."

The flick is about a small-town girl (Aguilera) who moves to Los Angeles to find fame in the big city as a singer. She eventually gets a job working in a nightclub. While Aguilera isn't an entertainment-industry rookie like her character, this is her first big role as an actress. For those who aren't sure Aguilera can pull it off, Robin insisted that she has the acting chops, a sentiment "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet recently shared with MTV News.

"She's doing really well," Robin said. "She's very talented, and it's great when you have a director like my brother, Steve. ... He truly is one of the best directors. That's what a good director is: It's to get your actress, whether they've had experience or not, to be great."

"Burlesque" hits theaters in November 2010.

Christina's drawing for Target House’s Elephant Exhibition.

Elephant Exhibition
Celebrity friends of Target House, such as Oprah Winfrey, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, Maya Angelou, Christina Aguilera, Rob Thomas and Katherine Heigl have all joined the likes of John Travolta and Tom Hanks to design elephant “works of art” to be framed and unveiled as part of Target House’s Elephant Exhibition.
The exhibition was conceived to echo the life-sized elephant water fountain sculpture designed by architect Michael Graves that greets guests and families at the entrance to the Target House grounds. Elephants represent family, long life, strength and playfulness, which is why they serve as a mascot for Target House.

Stephen Webster Launching Christina Aguilera-Inspired Jewelry Line.

Christina Aguilera is already the face of Stephen Webster's celeb-favored jewelry line -- and rocks a 5-carat Webster wedding ring -- now she's also serving as the inspiration for the British jeweler's diffusion line, which will retail for $25-$70 on Aguilera's Web site starting March 2010.

"It's by Stephen Webster but it's Christina Aguilera-inspired," Webster explained to StyleList during a visit to Neiman Marcus in San Francisco. "We're making the collection now and it's really for her fan base -- for young people, not for my customers."

"It's got to fit in where Juicy Couture jewelry fits," he told us, before elaborating on the design details.

"I took some iconic things about Christina and made it into jewelry. I did a really cool big chain with big lips and the part that goes through the lips is a rose. There's a Christina charm bracelet and we did some things with her pets, some hats she's worn and something burlesque-themed," he said.

"I worked with my young team on it and they love the project. Christina's never had anything like this and the only experience we've had is the mosquito ring we did."

The mosquito ring he's referring to is a $75 piece of costume jewelry Webster created for the charity Malaria No More UK. It's a white gold-plated and faux diamond and ruby ring which was photographed numerous times on Victoria Beckham. Two shipments of 300 both sold out in a matter of hours on Asos.com this fall.

"If all of these things sort of work, I'd then think we are ready to do a collaboration," Webster revealed, referring to a deal with a fast fashion retailer along the lines of H&M.

"But you have to have a real buzz around your brand with the people who shop at H&M and Target. Otherwise, it doesn't always work with jewelry. You've got to have that frenzy."

Here's hoping his Aguilera line drums up the hype he's waiting for. We have a feeling affordable Stephen Webster jewelry at a mass retailer would do just fine... um, now. (Hint, hint.)

Celebrity jewelry lines seem to be the way to go these days. Check out Brad and Angelina's new collection of gems.

Holiday shopping with Christina and Max.

Fitting in quality bonding time with her young son while readying for the work week, Christina Aguilera took little Max on a shopping trip in West Hollywood on Sunday (December 13).
The mother/son duo ended up paying a visit to Maxfield’s, with Max emerging from the department store with a tasty treat in his hand.
Not ready to go home quite yet, Miss Aguilera’s adorable boy begged to play with the stone sculpture outside before hopping in her arms and heading to the car.
Aside from family time, Christina has also been working on the new movie “Burlesque” - with co-star Stanley Tucci telling MTV News of having Christina in the film, “I hear she’s wonderful. I’ve been talking to some of the people at the studio, and everyone is thrilled with her.”

'The Lovely Bones' Star Stanley Tucci Praises Christina Aguilera's Acting Debut In 'Burlesque'

When Eminem decided that his status as a superstar musician gave him the credentials to become an actor, the result was “8 Mile,” an Oscar-nominated instant classic; Mariah Carey’s 2001 bomb “Glitter” might just be the worst movie ever made. Somewhere in between, we’ve had Britney’s “Crossroads,” Whitney Houston’s “The Bodyguard,” 50 Cent’s “Get Rich or Die Tryin’,” and dozens of other boundary-defying debuts. Now, it’s time for Christina Aguilera to finally make the move – and one of her famous co-stars thinks Xtina has what it takes.

“I hear she’s wonderful,” explained Stanley Tucci, the accomplished veteran actor/writer/director of more than 80 movies and TV shows, who has been cast alongside Aguilera in “Burlesque,” also starring Cher, Kristen Bell and Cam Gigandet. “I’ve been talking to some of the people at the studio, and everyone is thrilled with her.”

Written and directed by Hollywood vet Steve Antin, the film tells the story of a small-town girl (Aguilera) from Iowa who moves West to unleash her angelic voice, then ends up starring in a neo-burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard run by Cher’s character. A few weeks into shooting, the excitement over Aguilera’s first acting gig has manifested itself in nearly daily leaked photos and video from the set, depicting a simply-dressed Aguilera in character.

Tucci has heard good things about Aguilera’s performance so far, but won’t witness anything with his own eyes for another few weeks. “I don’t know [how her acting will be], because I haven’t been there yet. I don’t start until January,” he explained. “They’re shooting [now], but I start in January.”

Currently, Tucci is getting some amazing buzz himself for playing a twisted serial killer in this weekend’s “The Lovely Bones,” a role that could secure the actor’s first Oscar. Coming off that acclaimed performance, the versatile character actor can’t get much more polar-opposite than joining Aguilera’s flick.

“I play Cher’s right-hand man, confidant and best friend who helps her run the burlesque,” Tucci explained. “And Christina Aguilera plays the ingénue. It should be really fun.”

“They sing and dance,” he said of Cher and Christina. “Luckily, I don’t.”

As for the music in the film, Tucci said he had not been briefed yet on whether Xtina will be performing other people’s songs, her own new compositions, or even some old classics. “No, I don’t know,” he explained. “I’m sure we’ll be hearing about it soon, though.”

Christina Honors Whitney in INSTYLE.

In the latest issue of INSTYLE magazine, a number of artists were asked, what was it that made them love Whitney Houston, and this is what Christina Aguilera answered:

Hop into the Holiday Spirit with "My Kind of Christmas"

Christmas is just 15 days away, and your Holiday experience is not complete without Christina Aguilera's My Kind of Christmas. I had not heard one Christmas song this whole year until I started it off with this delightful pop performance of some classic Holiday hits. It was released on October 24th, 2000 in the U.S. and October 27th, 2000 in the U.K. The album went platinum in the U.S. and sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide. An interesting fact about the album is that the song, "Climb Every Mountain," originally performed by Julie Andrews in the movie, "The Sound of Music," and which can be heard on her "My Reflection" DVD, was recorded for My Kind of Christmas but the song remained absent when the physical release became available. The song has yet to be leaked through the internet, or through any other available source.

Tracklisting:
  1. "Christmas Time" (Alex Alessandroni, Chaka Blackmon, Steven Brown, Ray Cham, Ron Fair) – 4:02
